Getting started in three steps

Pin the extension

Click the puzzle-piece icon in your browser toolbar, find Read in Romaji, and pin it. This puts the toggle icon within easy reach.

Open a Japanese page

Open any page with Japanese text — a news article, blog post, forum, social post, or recipe. Read in Romaji detects Japanese tokens and converts it when you click Convert Page.

Click the icon to toggle

Use the toolbar icon to switch the overlay on or off at any time. Your setting persists across tabs.

Install questions

The extension requires access to page content in order to inject romaji annotations — this is a standard permission for reading-aid extensions. It does not request access to passwords, payment details, or your browsing history. All text processing happens locally in your browser on your device.

No. Pro plan does not include a free trial.

For Chrome, Brave, and Edge, the clearest supported path right now is desktop installation. Mobile extension support varies by browser and platform. Read in Romaji is built as a browser extension.
