This Privacy Policy explains how CALIFF PERFORMANCE MARKETING ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use the Read in Romaji browser extension and this website.
This policy covers both the website and the browser extension. Some sections apply only to the website, and some apply only to the extension.
The short version
Read in Romaji is designed to process Japanese text locally in the browser for its core reading features. We do not send page text to our servers in order to generate romaji. The website is currently a static site with no public contact form and no analytics enabled. Limited technical data may still be processed by our hosting, infrastructure, sign-in, and payment providers where necessary to operate the product.
1. Who we are

2. Information we collect
Website
The website is currently a static product website. We do not currently provide a public contact form, newsletter signup, or website account system.
When you visit the website, our service providers may process limited technical information such as IP address, browser type, request logs, security events, and similar access information needed to deliver and protect the site.
We do not currently use website analytics tools. We do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies on the website.
Extension — Free plan
The Free plan does not require an account. For the core reading features, Japanese page text is processed locally in the browser on your device. We do not send page text to our servers in order to generate romaji.
Extension — Pro plan
If you use Pro features, we and our service providers may process limited information needed to verify Pro access and restore entitlement across supported devices.
- Google account sign-in information needed to verify access
- Email address associated with your Pro access
- Subscription or entitlement status
- Limited technical request metadata related to sign-in, entitlement checks, security, and payment-related backend events
We do not use page text for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
Payments
Payments for Pro features are handled by Stripe. We do not directly store your full payment card details on our own servers. Stripe may process payment and subscription information according to its own role and privacy practices.
3. How we use information
- To operate and deliver the website
- To provide the browser extension and its features
- To verify Pro access and entitlement
- To restore Pro access across up to 3 devices
- To process payments and subscription-related events through Stripe
- To maintain security, reliability, and fraud prevention
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for advertising.
4. Third-party services
We use third-party services that may process limited information in order to operate the product, including:
- Bluehost — website hosting
- Cloudflare — infrastructure, delivery, DNS, security, and related request handling
- Google — sign-in and authentication for Pro access
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management
These providers operate under their own privacy terms and may process information according to their own roles.
5. Legal bases for processing
If you are located in the EEA or UK, we may rely on one or more of the following legal bases depending on the situation:
- Contract — to provide Pro access or requested services
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the website and extension
- Consent — where required for optional features or future analytics
- Legal obligation — where we must comply with applicable law
6. Data retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating the service, maintaining Pro access, handling payments, responding to support issues, protecting the product, and complying with legal, accounting, or security obligations.
Because our exact retention periods are not yet finalized, we currently rely on the standard of retaining information only as long as necessary.
7. International users
Read in Romaji is intended for international users. Because our service providers may operate in different countries, information may be processed outside your country of residence, including by providers that support hosting, payments, security, and sign-in functionality.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

- request correction of inaccurate information
- request deletion of personal information

11. Children’s privacy
Read in Romaji is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the website or extension.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we later enable analytics, change our providers, or expand account or Pro access restore functionality, this policy should be updated before those changes go live.
